<span style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif;">Un libro admirable
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span lang="ES" style="font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; mso-ansi-language: ES;">En esa atmósfera
memoria mía.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
oscuras venganzas, inconfesables intereses y tremendos sueños.
<div class="MsoNormal">
<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<div class="MsoNormal">
Yo mismo he
<div class="MsoNormal">
<div class="MsoNormal">
Aunque he estado a punto.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

Enrique I, rey de

chosen because in the XII century, the day of June 10th, we find a very famous

granted this son-in-law Geoffrey V of Anjou the right to bear arms, Azure

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Don es abreviatura de la voz latina </span><i style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">dominus</i><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">,
que significa </span><i style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">señor</i><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">. El tratamiento originariamente estaba reservado
sólo a Dios, el </span><i style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Señor </i><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">por antonomasia.
significado (</span><i style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Donostia</i><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">=</span><i style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">San Sebastián</i><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">), como así también en
italiano (</span><i style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">don Bosco</i><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">, </span><i style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">don Orione</i><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">).
hereditario.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="ES-AR" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: ES-AR;">El término
</span><span lang="ES" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: ES;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
casos excepcionales, como ocurrió con <i>Cristóbal Colón</i>, <i>Hernán Cortés</i>,
<i>Francisco Pizarro </i>y <i>Diego de Almagro</i>.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="ES-AR" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: ES-AR;">Los judíos no
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span lang="ES" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: ES;">A partir
<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
nivel social. </span><span lang="ES-AR" style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-ansi-language: ES-AR;"><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;">Don
is short for the Latin word “dominus”, meaning lord. The use was originally
reserved only to God, the ultimate Lord. Eventually it became used to designate
the saints, and in the Basque language still retains that meaning (Donostia =
San Sebastián), as well as in Italian (Don Bosco, Don Orione). Subsequently it
was extended to the popes, kings and their close relatives, then to the bishops
and prelates, and finally to titled nobility, who then made it hereditary.</span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="mso-layout-grid-align: none; text-align: justify; text-autospace: none; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">The
word "dominus" originally referred to power over men and land and has
no link with noble origin. It is not a title but deferential treatment.
However, it evolved later to highlight social prominence and got associated
with the nobility. <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif";">In
the second half of the XIV, the word "don" is used only by lay titled
nobility only. For ecclesiastical use, "don" was closely related to
their hierarchy, limited during the Middle Ages only to abbots, deans, bishops,
archbishops, and other dignitaries.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

were not allowed to use the "don" neither as lords with power over

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)
is a genealogical association in the United States founded in 1890. Women 18
years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution,
are eligible for membership. DAR's motto is "God, Home, and Country."<o:p></o:p></div>

As the DAR is a lineage-based organization we were hired to
trace the patriot ancestors for a family that has been in the United States for
hundreds of years. Oral tradition and some documents in the family gave
indication that they qualified for membership but they did not have all the
documents available to demonstrate lineal descent. We specialize in Hispanic
Genealogy but took this assignment to learn about North American genealogy and
test the available document is United States. <o:p></o:p></div>

The research took only three months and the results were

The availability of digital records, electronic indexes and
information exchange via genealogical societies allowed going back 7
generations in record time. We can only hope the state of Hispanic genealogical
records will get to this situation sometime in the future. In the meantime we
will continue painstakingly working with old papers and a lot of manual research…<o:p></o:p></div>

fort called “Castillo de San Marcos” in the city of St. Augustine in Florida

<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">Curious
about the history of the cannon, the heraldry art in it can give us some clues.
We observe the coat of arms of Philip V (common version), confirmed by motto
“Philip V Hispani Rex” <o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">Therefore
we can conclude the cannon was manufactured between 1714 and 1746. By reading at the engraving we confirm the
heraldic clues; it was made by Joseph Barnola in Barcelona, Spain in 1743.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: "Arial","sans-serif"; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi;">After
the independence the weapon passed to the Mexican army and saw action
during the Mexican-American war (1846-1848). The cannon was surrendered to the
forces of the United States at Veracruz, March 29 1847. Taken as a war trophy
found its final home in this historic fort in Florida<o:p></o:p></span></div>
