Civil registration is the system by which a government
records the vital events of its citizens and residents.
Citizens have a legal requirement to notify the relevant
authority of any life event which affects the registry. Vital events that are
typically recorded include live birth, death, marriage, divorce, adoption,
legitimization and recognition, etc.
Civil registration derives legal documents like birth
certificates, death certificates, and marriage certificates. Of course civil registration is a key element
on the genealogical research that is why we are interested in identifying when
various countries began to register events.
In USA the dates varies by state with some Louisiana counties starting
in the early 1800's. But today we will review the timeline for the Hispanic countries:
