Spanish Grants of Arms

The Meadows Museum is a division of the Southern Methodist University and is located in Dallas, Texas (USA).  The museum houses one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of Spanish art outside of Spain; including masterpieces by El Greco, Velázquez, Ribera, Murillo, Goya, Miró, Sorolla, and Picasso.

In this museum there is currently an exhibit called “Treasures from the House of Alba” that includes 130 works from the private collection of the Duke of Alba.

In addition to the great works of art the collection of the House of Alba has some objects interesting for the lovers of the heroic sciences. For example, a decree of February 16, 1536 granting coat of arms to Martin Montezuma, son of the Aztec emperor Moctezuma II.

There is a second very interesting document, a decree from January 19, 1537 granting arms to Francisco Pizarro.
