Estimating dates

In a previous entry we introduced the 30 year estimate for each generation.  Today we will present some other estimates that professional researchers use on Spanish genealogy. When we do not have documents to calculate a date, we use the following guidelines:
  • Men usually married at age 25. Women usually married at age 21. Therefore, if a couple was married in 1925, you could estimate that the husband was born “about 1900" and the wife was born “about 1904.”
  • On average, the first child is born one year after the parent’s marriage. Subsequent children are usually born every two years after that. So if a couple was married in 1925, you could estimate that their first child was born “about 1926,” and their second child was born “about 1928,” and so on.
